We had to give Hanes his name because he arrived at the shelter in a tee-shirt! The mystery of his attire will never be solved, because his owners apparently never looked for him.

Hanes is a handsome, sweet, social young adult. Toys? People? Dogs? Loves them all!  Hanes is fantastic. Yet he has a story that we would never have believed, knowing how Hanes is today.

At one of Hanes' first adoption shows, a volunteer noticed that Hanes had an odd gait. We took Hanes to our vet, who referred him to an orthopedic specialist. Hanes not only had an old fracture in one of his legs, but his hip was out of the socket! The specialist recommended a triple pelvic osteotomy, which we provided for Hanes in mid-2009. A second operation followed to ensure Hanes' full recovery and a life without pain.  Good to go?

Not quite. After a few months, Hanes' foster mom noticed he wasn't well, and then he stopped eating. After a series of tests, Hanes was diagnosed as having had a immune mediated arthropathy. We weren't sure what would happen next, but never thought a miracle would occur.

It did. Hanes responded beautifully to the medication, and today he's a normal, goofy dog who runs and plays like any two year old dog. We don't know what triggered the autoimmune reaction, but we do know Hanes is totally fine now, and there has been not even a hint of reoccurrence. So Hanes is finally "good to go!"  Home, that is.

We hope Hanes' history doesn't scare away a potential adopter, as he is the most wonderful "blender" dog you can imagine. Things happen in life, and we believe all those things happened up front in Hanes' life.  We chuckle about how Hanes is our million dollar dog...an exaggeration, of course, and yet the better description is that Hanes is one in a million, as his future adopter will agree!
